Radio Clásica 650 AM (CX6 SODRE) is Uruguay's oldest public radio station and the birthplace of state broadcasting in the country. Launched on April 1, 1930, as the first station of SODRE (Official Radio Broadcasting Service), CX6 made history by broadcasting from the Palacio Legislativo during the inaugural FIFA World Cup held in Montevideo. For 95 years, this pioneering station has championed classical music, opera, and the works of great composers, serving as a cultural beacon for Uruguay and the Southern Cone region. Its powerful antenna—the tallest in South America—allows the signal to reach listeners across Argentina, Brazil, and beyond. Now part of SECAN under the Ministry of Education and Culture, Radio Clásica broadcasts live performances from the National Symphony Orchestra (OSSODRE), the National Choir, and other SODRE resident companies.
